Trees
Washington Hawthorne
The Washington Hawthorne tree, Crataegus Phaenopyrum, is a broadly oval to rounded, dense, thorny tree. The foliage is a reddish purple when unfolding and gradually changing to lustrous dark green at maturity. Fall color varies from orange to scarlet to purplish.
White Ash
The White Ash tree, Fraxinus Americana, is a handsome native tree. It develops an open and rather round topped crown in its old age. This is the largest of the ash trees in North America. Mature trunks can reach almost 6 feet in diameter.
White Oak
The White Oak tree, Quercus alba, is a great majestic long-lived tree that will last for generations. It is an excellent wildlife source of food mass in the form of acorns.
Willow Oak
The Willow Oak tree, Quercus phellos, is one of the most popular trees for streets, parks, estates, and residential properties. This shade tree is also grown as far north as Cape Cod with reasonable success.
Kousa Dogwood
The Kousa Dogwood tree, Cornus kousa, or Japanese Flowering Dogwood, is a handsome small specimen tree or shrub. The Kousa is not as susceptible to disease as the White Dogwood in spring. It is planted as a specimen, near a patio, or in groupings.
American Beech
The American Beech tree, Fagus Grandifolia, has a short trunk, with a spreading crown and is a very stately tree. These beech trees have thin, smooth blue-gray bark. The American Beech grows best in full sun, but will withstand partial shade.
Flame Willow
The Flame Willow, \'Salix Willow\', gets it\'s name from the stems that turn red in late fall and lasts until early spring. It grows multistemmed, more like a shrub, unless trained otherwise.The Flame willow is very hardy and responds well to pruning.
Korean Evodia
The Korean Evodia, \'Evodia daniellii\' is one of the few flowering trees that flower in the summer, rather than spring. White flowers are borne in mid summer and are quite showy. Fruit remains during the winter and adds interest to an uninteresting time of year.
Texas Red Oak
The Texas Red Oak, \'Quercus buckleyi\' is also known as Spanish Oak, Spotted Oak, Red Oak, and Rock Oak. This medium sized tree may achieve a height of 30 feet or more and an equal spread.
Shantung Maple
The Shantung Maple, \'Acer trucatum\', is an outstanding small tree. It has glossy, dark green star shaped foliage that remains in good condition throughout the season. It develops good fall color ranging from clear yellow to reddish purple.
